2013 Jul 2

Beth Churchill of Corinth, Maine, received the Student of the Year award during the commencement exercise of the New England School of Communications on May 11th. The Student of the Year award is given to the graduate receiving the highest cumulative grade point average. Churchill graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications.

As a sophomore in the marketing communications program, within a group she participated in a six-week long challenge put out by Honda executives. With a $150 to use social media, a flip camera and a Honda CR-Z, the company was looking for innovative ways to attract 18-35 year olds to purchase the new Honda CR-Z. The advertising campaign centered around a character named "CR Zazzy" who become infatuated with the car. The group won second place in the national competition.

Churchill also did a local internship. "I was able to do a marketing internship with Tim Horton's corporate. We had a truck, an old FED EX truck that was refurbished that's open on one side to serve coffee samples and smoothies," shared Churchill. "We went to Champion the Cure at Eastern Maine Medical Center's Cancer Care of Maine. I got more marketing experience there and we were able to represent the brand and give away free stuff."

Churchill admits she pushed herself to excel in school and the opportunities she was able to experience along the way is something she will miss.

"I know I'm going to miss the people and the different opportunities I had there," said Churchill. "But I won't miss staying up to 2 a.m. to finish an assignment."
